Every year the Government of India provides thousands of scholarships to qualified and eligible Nepalese students through various scholarships and grants scheme from Embassy of India in Kathmandu. These scholarships are provided in various subjects and also various academic levels including Bachelors, Masters, PhD/ Post Doc, Vocational Training and also School Level (Plus Two).

This blog post is intended to provide information on those scholarships provided by Government of India through Embassy of India, Kathmandu for Nepalese students who have finished their high school level education and seek to study Medicine (MBBS) in India.

According to the Indian Embassy Kathmandu’s website, the MBBS Scholarships for Nepalese students are announced generally during December or January of each year. So, the students seeking such scholarships should keep their eyes open now for the notices that the Embassy will provide soon for 2012.

The usual minimum requirement for a student to apply for these scholarships is at least 60% or more in Biology, Physics, Chemistry in 10+2 or a similar higher secondary school examination. Also, a standard score in English is required.

The main indian institutes where MBBS scholarships will be provided for Nepalese students are

AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi)
BHU (Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi)
Lady Hardinge Medical College, Delhi
Rajendra Medical College, Ranchi
SMS Medical College, Jaipur

The exam and/or interview and results are generally conducted  during the month of April. The short listed candidates are called for interview either in Kathmandu or in Birgunj.
