What is a Chevening Scholarship?
The Chevening Scholarship Programme is a prestigious awards scheme that funds international postgraduate students who want to study in the UK. Funded by the UK’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO), and administered by British Council, the scheme operates in over 150 countries and annually provides funding for over 2,300 students. The Chevening scholarship programme started in 1984 and aims to support those with the greatest potential to be future leaders. For 2012/13 one Chevening Scholarship (fully funded by the FCO), and one Cambridge Chevening Scholarship have been allocated to Nepal.

What is the Cambridge Chevening scholarship?
The Cambridge Chevening scholarship is jointly funded by the British Embassy in Kathmandu and the Cambridge Overseas Trust, which supports international students on one year Masters degree courses at the University of Cambridge. The Cambridge Overseas Trust was established in 1989, since when it has helped more than 7,000 young people from 65 countries to study at one of the best universities of the world.

Who is eligible?
Only Nepali citizens are eligible for these scholarships. The awards are targeted at students who meet the Chevening criteria of academic excellence, high motivation and potential leadership qualities, and who can fulfill the rigorous admission criteria of the universities to which they apply (University of Cambridge for the Cambridge Chevening scholarship). Preference will be given to candidates who have already secured an offer of admission from their chosen UK University and have a minimum of five years professional experience in their subject area. Candidates must have a good command of written and spoken English. Note that the scheme does not cover undergraduate, research or PhD study.

These scholarships are for Masters Degree Programmes in the UK during the 2012/13 academic year.  Applications close on 31st December 2011.
